One illness took her husband.
Another is taking her.
This is the real story of Nagma Begam and her three children — a family that lost its anchor and is now about to lose its mother too. Helpless, but not hopeless — because of you.
Eighteen months ago, Nagma Begam's world collapsed. Her husband, a daily-wage carpenter in a small town, suddenly passed away from a heart attack — leaving behind Nagma Begam and three children, the youngest only four years old. There was no insurance. No savings. No fallback. Just grief, and three mouths to feed.
Nagma Begam took up tailoring work from home. She stitched late into the night so her children could eat the next morning. But six months ago, she started coughing blood. The local hospital diagnosed her with advanced chronic lung disease — the dust from years of low-quality coal cooking, combined with untreated TB, had destroyed nearly half her lung capacity.
Today, Nagma Begam is on 24×7 oxygen support. A cylinder lasts her family barely two days and costs ₹600. She cannot walk more than ten steps. She cannot stitch anymore. Her eldest, Ayisha, just 9 years old, now cooks rice on a kerosene stove for her younger brother (7) and baby sister (4). The three children sometimes go to bed with only salt and water — because there is nothing else.
This is where Sunshine Foundation has stepped in. Our team met Nagma Begam last week through a local volunteer. We have committed to cover her oxygen, medicines and daily rations until she can be moved to a proper hospital for evaluation. But we cannot do this alone. Your donation, of any amount, goes directly to keeping Nagma Begam breathing and her children fed.
Don't let three more children become orphans. Don't let a mother die because her family could not afford a cylinder of oxygen.
